The Heritage listed Nant Estate is a private country estate at Bothwell in the Central Highlands of Tasmania. First settled in 1821 the historic convict built sandstone Nant homestead and farm complex are an important part of our national heritage. Today Nant is still a working farm breeding Angus cattle and Suffolk sheep. The old flour mill (circa 1823) has been converted into a full production whisky distillery.  

The first settler, Edward Nicholas, arrived from Wales in 1821 to cultivate the frontier fields of the Van Diemen Land colony at Nant in Bothwell. As the first European settlement in the region, and for many years one of Tasmania's largest pastoral landholdings, Nant has a special connection to the environs and people of the Clyde River Valley. Over 10 Heritage listed buildings on the Estate have been preserved and many form part of the distillery complex.

In 1823 Nicholas built a water driven flour Mill  at Nant and the later new mill built in 1857 is now home to the Nant Distillery. The Nant Distillery is a rare farm-based whisky distillery, one of only a handful in the world.  

Distillery Tours and cellar Door sales

The Distillery is open daily for tours and cellar door sales between 10am and 4pm. The Distillery Tour is a unique and intriguing tour of the distillery and water mill that  takes you through the time honoured process for the making of single malt whisky and gives an insight into how our early pioneers settled the Nant. Commencing at the mill door you will be escorted through the old water mill and still house to see first hand the workings of a fully operational whisky distillery. The Tour concludes in our whisky bar where you can enjoy a whisky tasting or purchase a bottle of whisky.

The Nant Private Masterclass:

Following the Distillery Tour you will then enjoy a master class featuring a selection of four single malts matched with a delicious tasting plate of local Tasmanian produce in our private Tasting room. The tour is a must for the whisky enthusiast!

The Nant Private Masterclass  costs $75 per person. Please allow 2 hours for this experience.

Wedding's and Events 
The Nant Distillery is a unique, intimate and unforgettable wedding and event venue. Nestled in the beautiful Central Highlands of Tasmania, the Distillery is delicately perched overlooking a centuries old mill pond with its grand trees and cascading water. The architecturally designed Atrium lounge provides a wonderful background for stunning wedding photographs and there are many special aspects and features to the Estate which inspire romance and are a photographers dream. 

Make the most of the magnificent setting by having your ceremony or function in one of the many picturesque locations on the Estate. If your group is more intimate perhaps the atrium lounge or one of its two terrace deck areas would provide the perfect setting. Depending on which reception or event option you choose, the Distillery can cater for up to 200 guests.
